Caverns

Who am I to possess the wants and desires of a young soul? Hands can open up places lest seen. Fingers can extract feelings from deep within caves. Caverns. The dark hole within us all. Moist forms on the ragged walls. An unknown emanates from deep inside. From these depths the pulse of humanity beats. And I can all but grab it.

Clenched in my fist I become owner. Because, who is anyone to resist this deepest of desire? With hands I become a puppeteer. With fingers, I become conqueror. With words, I spin tales that wrap the world in wonder.

How deep can you go?

As deep into the darkness until there is a light. I step into the narrow path, careful to secure my feet on solid enough ground. I face this beaming light with arms raised but to no effect. I am the mercy of it. My eyes adjust and I do to. The light is me. I am the light.

But how?

In this deepest darkest of places. The light is too strong. I twist and scramble away and almost slip on the slippery surface. I latch onto a ledge and pull myself up and finally out of the cavern. It seems I am no one to possess this pulse. The caverns is a place I won’t be visiting soon.

The stories we tell have a life of their own and they work between the realm of what is real and how we conceive that reality.
